l am a receptionist at a fairly large company. l am used to seeing many people in and out all day. l am also used to men giving me really cheesy smiles. However, sometimes those smiles are genuinely friendly, and sometimes they make me uncomfortable. The past few weeks l have felt really weird around this one guy... as soon as l see him come in l wanna hide or pretend I am super busy so l do not have to be rude and ignore him. He does not hit on me, he does not stare or anything... he just has this feeling about him and a drawl in his speech that makes me uncomfortable.l usually see him here 4-6 times a week. So this morning a different guy from the same company came in and l asked him to do his best not to send the other one over here. About an hour later one of the managers calls to apologize and confirm that l will not see delivery guy #1 again. l feel bad because it kinda was not that serious for a manager to be aware, but it made me feel odd enough to tell someone. Was l over reacting to friendliness or is it perfectly ok to screen delivery people that make me feel weird?

l think it is perfectly fine for you to say something like you did

if it makes you feel better, you could always call that company, or get the other delivery guy to give you a number for his manager directly
that way you can tell him exactly what the deal was..
just tell them that guy #2 did not do anything rude/mean/inappropriate..just that you felt uncomfortable because of him

Not at all. You did what you felt was the best thing for you. l get that feeling to sometimes. There are some people who even though they do not do anything wrong they just give me a bad feeling.

You have the right to work in a safe environment. You were not feeling safe so you said something and now the situation is solved. Hopefully you will be feeling safe again.

If he did something to make you uncomfortable like hit on you then you were justified.. but just because someone weirded you out because of the way he talked or smiled is over reacting..

But that is just my opinion.

Perfectly fine to say ur not happy with a delivery guy.

One day a delivery guy started putting boxes down in a position that would cause serious injury to staff coming through the door. So l asked him politely not leave them there as they were a hazard, & he swore at me - 2 or 3 other staff heard him. Even after my Manager complained to the company he worked for, they still sent him. As a result we started to use another company for our stationery - the contract was worth £2 or 300,000 a year.

yeah you were wrong in reporting someone for nothing but having a strange tone in his voice he never did anything to you.

you said that he did not hit on you or stared or anything. would you like that someone complained about you because they feel weird about you? totally overreacting. for how long did you have to see this guy, two minutes each day? WOW.

yeah your rediculous poor guy probably got in trouble for doing nothing you should appologize to the guy and tell him your just a snob of a person...

Look, he did not even stare at you! There was no reason to get a guy in trouble for being weird & for speaking funny. He was a delivery guy & had only taken up probably 1% of ur time each day. It was not like u had to deal with him in ur environment for the entirety of ur workday. If u were feeling uncomfortable- u should have just been on guard. l hope he has moved onto bigger & better things by now. You better hope his delivery company just transferred him instead of firing him for being reported- because being sued can be pretty uncomfortable too.
