l am at a complete loss right now and feeling rather depressed. After trying a few careers im stuck in some kind of career rut. l currently work in admin but absolutely hate it. Its not something l can see myself doing long term.

l do not have many hobbies. l like writing creatively, also interested in human interest stories. l can not really afford to go to university as l have a young son and can not go through the struggle again. l might be able to stretch to some college courses. Im not sure what qualifications you need to be a writer, journalist or sub editor and with so many courses on the market l do not wanna get duped.

Im also interested in beauty, in paticular make up and skin care. l do not think l wanna be a make up artist but perhaps something else in this field would be something l like. Again Im at a loss where to start and what qualifications I'd need.

go to your local college they may be able to help you. If you are working would you be able to fit in a college course . You may be able to get financial help toward this

Have a look over some job ads, pick out the ones that appeal to you then contact the employers to find out what qualifications they require and how you can go about getting those qualifications.

If u have interest in those categories, u do not neccessarily have to go to an university, u can also take online courses to save time. If ur interest is in writing, consider becoming an author & a journalist for ur local newspaper. Contact the publishing companies & ur local newspaper to see further details.

If ur interested in beauty, maybe u can be one of those ladies who help people put on makeup at the mall.

The main thing is to find out more information on the path u choose to follow.

Try to take ur skills & apply them at a bigger or different company where there may be other opportunities. Maybe u can get promoted. Also, non profits provide rewarding work & r known from promoting from within, regardless of background (although their pay scales r not usually as high as for-profits, but it depends). You need to find ur way into a rewarding job so u also give ur son a fine example. BTW, l work in media & its extremely hard for journalists right now. Papers r suffering & even the most senior & talented writers r being let go. Before u spend a lot of money on classes, make sure to do informational interviews for ideas on positions & industries. Get a book like Passion Plan or other career guides at the library. They pose questions for u to help u focus. Its a long term process, so keep it up! Do not get discouraged. Most people today go through 3-5 careers! Good Luck!
