My undergraduate degree is a BA in English. Can l go to medical school from here or would l need to obtain a BS first?

l do not intend to become a doctor; l am just wondering.
l am sure that l can get a good score on the MCAT with proper study.

Of course u can! No one discriminates u because u have a BA! And from what l know, loads of BA English majors got themselves into medical school just like everyone else, & u have a linguistic advantage for composition to start with! :D

Having a BA has an advantage of taking ''nearly-major required'' courses for another major, or even double-majoring within the 4-year time limit because u do not have that much restrictions. It is required, or recommended that you've taken quite a number of science & math classes prior to applying for medical schools. From what l know,
the medical school application processes has become more flexible over the years. Some of these standards might be ''softened'' but nevertheless still weigh in. Here r some of the ''traditional'' standards for qualifying to apply:

- 1 year of calculus courses (up to 200 levels),
- 1 year of English course, must be (or strongly recommending) writing-intensive
- 2 (or 3) years of chemistry courses, must include a full year of organic chemistry courses
- 2 (or 3) years of biology courses, 1 course in human physiology is strongly recommended.
- MCAT (of course)
- good amount of school activities (and do not have to be major-related, but shows ur personality)
- good relations with professors or deans that would land u great reviews. one of these recommendations must science-related because they DO want to know how u perform under a laboratory and/or group project environment, instead of getting As in science class by simply answering test questions.
- enough patience to go through applications, essays, personal statements, & interviews~~ :D
- & more: & l might be wrong on the amt of math & science courses required b/c l have been out of this range for long. l apologize in advance for any wrong suggestions.

Someone might give u helpful links on how to get started. If u r discouraged by the number of requried courses u did not take during ur BA years, u could always become a part-time student at a qualifying institution to do some Post-Bachelor studies. There is also awful lot of concerns about how good ur grades should be (you probably know the ''3.75 GPA min'' or ''top 5% of class'' standard. Competitive schools could be a killer on this, but hey: this is the States & no one bars u from applying. all applications r considered, u never know. If u want, u can start accessing what u have now, do a thorough research (mighty important!), set a realistic goal & timeline, & get moving!

You can, but it will still require you to take some science classes that are required prereqs for med school. Such as certain chemistry, anatomy and physiology etc. you will need to score very well on the MCAT
